Well Russh is flat out working on its new issue. They've hired new staff to replace those who have left and it's all go.
That is despite the negative pieces in the Daily Telegraph which is owned by News Limited who would deem Russh a competitor especially as it's now three years old, quite an achievement for an independent magazine in this country.
Yes Russh have debtors, what company doesn't?! And some may even be overdue. I'm sure they are also owed money.
How do I know this? Because I've run a company. I've also worked at an independent magazine and a major international publishing company, Conde Nast.
Speak to any photographer, writer, agent, etc about the length of time it takes to get paid by the major magazine companies.
If Marie Claire, Vogue or Madison were late paying an invoice would the "leading Sydney model and artist agency" who went to the Daily Telegraph and industry members take the same course of action?
Something tells me they wouldn't. Wouldn't dare that is.
Did anyone bother to think that maybe the claim by the two companies wasn't right? Maybe the accounts were being disputed?
These articles could easily have led to the demise of the publication. But it obviously hasn't. However they have made life very tough, unnecessarily so, for Russh.
Having invested considerable money into this venture, his own money, I'm sure Ian Davies has already been through enough tough times over the past three years setting up and expanding the magazine. He needed this like a rash, as one fashion icon once said.
Time, I think, for the industry to step forward and support one of its own.
