You've got to love Amanda Meade's column, in the Media section of Thursday's Australian. She certainly has got the goods. Last week was brilliant! There was Ray Martin on the cover in his self written piece about how everything was amicable between he and 9, it was the "media" who had it all wrong. Damn that media!
Amanda trumped him on the back cover with a scoop on how he went running to Channel 7 publicity about 9 dumping him!
Today's piece is excellent reading -

An excerpt:
Ray loved being a star. In a recent interview, he likened himself to the Hollywood’s Robert Redford: “Like me, Bert (Newton) has been around forever. Like me, love him or hate him, that's worth something in show business, just as Robert Redford is worth something.”
Privately, he saw himself as the Walter Cronkite of Australian television, and was always slightly miffed he wasn’t treated with more respect. But in reality Martin’s heyday was past.
He was king in the 1980s and early 90s but not in 2008. Ray was well liked by his colleagues at Nine, but he’s always had a healthy ego and his antics never ceased to amaze.
As he said of himself last year, there is no-one quite like Ray Martin. Speaking of his worth to Nine he said: “Then there's the cred. The result of 40 years-plus for me is there's literally nobody in Australia who won't talk to me.”
Oh pleeeaaassssee.I must remember that next time I bump into him in Waverton or Cammeray!
